The heart of the Iladurarrak resides in our homeland of northwest Europe, and the sacred placed-based knowledge we have passed down through the ages by our living history. This story is forever stored within Amalur - Mother Earth.

This wisdom we have nurtured from our lives on this continent is the sacred bundle we contribute to the collective bundle of knowledge shared by native people all over the world.

Iladurarrak Herria - Our Homeland

Like many Indigenous people, the Iladurarrak homeland has great biodiversity. Towering, snowcapped mountains with sheltered river valleys, hidden caves, open tundra and grassland, deep forests, as well as coastal bays and beaches all provided the necessities of physical and spiritual health. Seasonal migrations over thousands of years not only shaped our knowledge of the Lur (land), but the land itself.

Ur - Water

Ur is sacred to us in all its forms, and home to the Lamiak (Water People). The oceans, rivers and lakes bring us nourishment and ways of travel, Eluri Snow and Euri the Rain spirits rejuvenate life, and sacred springs are a source for spiritual connection. The fabled "Lady of the Lake" persists in the tales of King Arthur, but has an origin thousands of years older with our Ancestors.

Ila, Egu and Osti - Moon, Sun and Sky

The moon, sun and sky were birthed by our Earth Mother, Amalur. Ila, Grandmother Moon sets our calendar, and is the source of the magical power called Adur, for which we are named. In her argi (light), she holds the spirits of our Ancestors. Eku, Grandmother Sun rises from Amalur each day bringing ekuargi and the source of the forces called indar. Osti (Sky), holds the power of the Odei (Storm People).

Haize - Wind Spirits

Iladurarrak Herria is home to Haize, the Wind Spirits, who reveal their secrets as they travel across sacred mountain tops. Ipar Haize (North Wind) and Iparmen Haize (Northwest Wind) are honored each year at the first winter storm. Iladurarrak Herria is also the source for the powerful bird magic called tzori. By understanding the flight and call of birds, one may gain insight into the present and the future.

Bizitasun, Laminak and Others - Our Sisters and Brothers of the Land

Since the beginning, the Iladurarrak have nurtured sacred relationships with our family the Bizitasun (Animal People), Laminak (Plant People), Lamiak (Water People), Basajaun/Zuberoa (Wood People), and the Gentilak (Rock People). With their blessings, we have hunted the land, fished in the streams, drew honey from the bees, and gathered leafy plants, nuts, berries, fruits and grasses. Without them, we have no food, clothing, medicine, homes, or Su - sacred clan fire.
