The living history of a people develops from living connected and aware of the Earth and all life. It's an essential concept for understanding the Iladurarrak, and in many ways - nearly all Indigenous traditions.

To be more specific, imagine that your ancestors have lived in the same place for ages - so long they have seen small seedlings grow into great trees, whose seedlings have themselves grown into great trees - a cycle repeating itself for millenia.

Now imagine that your ancestors, living in this place for so long, have grown to live with the earth and all life as sisters and brothers. And like a family, they learn from each other, talk with each other, and take care of each other. Everything is alive, connected, and communicating with everything else.

This profound, place-based connection results in an awareness of ancestral experience and intuitive (spiritual) knowledge that can be further celebrated and preserved through cultural practices. This knowledge is always changing and growing just as the people are always changing and growing - becoming a living history of the people and the place they live. Sacred songs, drumbeats, dances, stories, and healing remedies are just a few tangible things that originate for people who live with, and honor, a living history.

Living history has confounded scientists because it draws upon things that are not measureable or quantifiable. For instance, how does a scientist of 'modern sensibility' report that the knowledge and preparation of a medicinal plant was given to a native healer by the spirit of that plant? Yet in order to truly understand the knowledge of a native people, including the returning knowledge of the Iladurarrak, it is a concept that must be understood, if not embraced.

So as you explore this site, please consider the idea that what we see, hear and experience in this world, is just one small part a greater mystery of life. If you can accept this mystery, then you can begin to understand the living history that makes the awakening of the Iladurarrak culture truly possible.
