Ematezu to Our Indigenous Guests!

Ematezu is our traditional greeting, and it means the Spirit is between us when we meet. Please accept our greetings and our respect as we follow our Ancestors and Spirits in this journey to mend our broken circle.

If you are an Indigenous person, especially an activist or traditional, we can understand your skepticism. We know the first question that might arise for you may be, "Is this for real?"

We invite you to explore our site and answer that question for yourself. We will offer that the Iladurarrak is not:

  • An attempt to mimic, appropriate or 'wanna be' other Indigenous cultures.

  • Role playing of Lord of the Rings, Clan of the Cave Bear, or any other fiction.

  • A romanticized New Age expression of Indigenous life and spirituality.

Our reemergence has come about in the traditional way - from our Ancestors and living history - through people who have finally remembered how to listen for this sacred knowledge. We understand this is the process that any Indigenous people may go through to reclaim language, songs, dances, ceremony and other sacred aspects of their culture.

We hope to once again offer our unique part of the sacred bundle which keeps all of us healthy and alive, and we humbly ask to return to the sacred fire during this time when Mother Earth calls for healing, and when prophesies speak of people of the Four Directions coming together to remember what has been lost.

With the guidance of our Ancestors, we have begun the real process of sitting down with Indigenous leaders and elders to humbly share our story and hopefully earn their respect. We will make mistakes. But as we learn to walk on these new legs and feel with our old heart, perhaps we may also demonstrate the wisdom of having learned from the mistakes of our more recent Ancestors, and find common ground that can support your struggles of resistance for sovereignty and self-determination. This would be a blessing.

Finally, we humbly ask for your prayers during this challenging time as we nurture people back to the reemerging Old Ways and offer ceremony to stimulate the sacred places of our homeland. We expect this to be a rewarding, but rocky path. Hou! Hou!
